RusAme started its gaining traction during the [REDACTED] ship wars as an alternative to one of the ships and used to be regularly seen paired with said ship. Though a lot of its appeal can be drawn back to the Cold War, confusions and misconceptions of this ship have come up! -
Here I'm mostly going to touch on their dynamic and say my theories then shoot down some misunderstandings about this ship! Again, these are purely my theories, you can disagree if you want! This is mostly an analysis derived from other ships that share tropes with Rusame! -
First, let's discuss their dynamic. They are seen as pretty decent friends besides making occasional threats. The two willingly spend time with each other and address each other as friends. Though their odd friendship is a frequent joke, this actually adds more to this ship. -
A good portion of their tension undoubtedly stems from governmental relations, and it has been proven that countries don't always agree with their government since they are personifications of their culture. But this allows for more depth within this dynamic to be explored. -
In my eyes, RusAme is so much more than just rivals to lovers. My theory is that both of them see a lot of admirable traits in the other, which has been somewhat confirmed to be true. But these two are seen as one of the two biggest global superpowers, to disconnect themselves -
from their governments' expectations and wishes could cause a catastrophe due to their power as nations. They could either give in and be individual entities and pursue love while defying their bosses' orders, or lie to themselves and hate the other while keeping stability. -
Typically, romances between nations are only utilized when it comes to there being a benefit for their governments, there would be no benefit here for their governments. It's practically forbidden love. They can be interpreted as lying about their hatred for the other, trying -
to maintain their nations' image. They need to be as intimidating and resentful towards the other as possible. And they're honestly probably convinced that they hate the other, so much information has been drilled in their head on things the other has done. But them overcoming -
these issues are what makes this dynamic so appealing. Them getting over their fear and submission towards their government and being able to love each other, being able to have some humanity rather than to live as representatives of a system that is only interested in itself. -
The reason why this ship isn't abusive is that it can be analyzed as the two repressing their true admiration for the other, but also because there is no power structure here. Neither one is above the other, they are complete equals. They have no established position -
in their relationship that can cause an abuse of power towards the other. They can't hold anything above the other's head. Any abusive portrayals come from fanon and fanon alone, but that does not define the true nature of this ship. Both of them have the same amount of power -
as their partner. This ship has so much depth to look through and you can truthfully test the waters with it and show their growth. RusAme is one of the most three-dimensional concepts I have honestly ever seen. Stan RusAme
