I downloaded Ableton for the first time in February sold my first beat in June and was selling $500 exclusives in October. Here is my free Twitter consultation that will blow your mind:

Make Ok beats. They don’t have to be perfect they are going to get remixed and mastered later anyway but they have to be good enough that they don’t break speakers and sound good on mobile.

Upload your beats everywhere. @beatstars @distrokid (especially) Soundcloud, IG, Youtube, Facebook, Triller, Voisey (more on Voisey later) You are now worldwide and customers from every market can see you.

You also might get some stream income when someone streams your track 100 times to write to it before buying it. “Where do you listen to music? Here is a custom playlist of beats that I think you will like”

If you can’t create graphics pay someone to do it. Not someone from Fiverr someone real. Your customers are other artists and they can tell the difference between cheap graphics and good shit.

Collabing and working with other artists spreads your brand and opens you up to new markets. Try local first that’s always the best bet. Lots of kids straight out of college would love to brand a producer and will work for good prices.

Have a consistent presence on all social media and actually use it to engage with people. (I’m still working on this) The algorithms don’t like link spammers who close the app immediately after posting and never come back. Neither do people.

Show your face. I went from 5-10 daily customers on my site to 100 on the day I first showed my face. It’s like people were just sitting there waiting to see if I was cute before they fucked with my beats, I’m not and they still do, so don’t be afraid to be ugly.

People have been ripped off by fake producers and want to connect with someone real. They aren’t trying to date you.

Voisey! POST YOUR BEATS ON VOISEY! Tag them correctly and your audience will find you. I can almost guarantee you will find someone to work with the first day you post if your stuff is tagged well and not trash.

This is the the second most important step and I can’t stress enough that you all need to be on this app. Nobody can tour right now, it’s hard to get into the studio, artists are locked inside looking for new ways to create.
(11/18)
(11/18)
Big artists, you would be surprised kind of artists… you know who else is looking at this app? Record execs, ANRs and promoters are all browsing it looking for new talent… American Idol stars, actors, the connections you will make are insane.

(12/18)
The most important step: ASK FOR THE SALE! I’m not actually a musician (I guess I am now) I’m a salesman who decided to download Ableton and you are all 10x more talented than me I guarantee it but I have no filter and no shame when it comes to closing a deal.

You will get random beat sales but the majority of your sales will be from saying things like “yo I fw your shit, you should hop on one of my beats” (say it better than that) Be a one stop shop. I have multiple options available if you want to work with me...

I have free licenses if you just want soundcloud beats (tags), we can also split revenue on DistroKid if you want to distribute through them. I just set up soundcloud distro to be able to 50/50 with even more people.

You want to keep all the profit? Buy a license. I also do customs and exclusives. Need vocals mixed? I do that now too. I can also put together TouchDesigner visualizers and connect you with dope designers who do cover art and logos.

Now customers have no reason to talk to another producer and if they do, they probably aren’t going to offer to do all that.

To quote @DJpain1 “You are the center of the music industry now”
Act like it and it will start to revolve around you.
Of course there are other ways to succeed but I guarantee if you follow these steps your business will be boomin’
