A reminder that 3 weeks ago, the Chief Exec of @HullHospitals said shutting schools + other restrictions was the only way to give Hull respite from a surge in Covid cases.
There seemed little justification at the time, but what has happened since?

Since then, positive tests in Hull have tumbled: now > 70% lower than the 9th Nov peak.
It is quite clear that school closures were not required for cases in Hull to come down, just as they weren't in Liverpool or Nottingham, both of which saw similar surges & falls in Sept/Oct.

Hull is a useful example, but there is also good research evidence showing that opening schools is not a significant driver of infection spread, e.g.: https://www.cream-migration.org/publ_uploads/CDP_22_20.pdf
Given also the evidence about the devastating impact of school closures, please can we stop, once and for all, calls (especially from senior people in healthcare) for schools to shut in response to rises in positive tests?
