Listening to #yegcc budget debates. Nickel putting forward a reckless motion for a tax decrease. Wanting to raid the piggy bank & dig into an intergenerational reserve fund, which would result in a 7% tax increase in 2022.

This blatant fiscal mismanagement. #yeg
Nickel is one of the longest sitting councillors & has regularly pontificated about fiscal conservatism while facilitating sprawl, leaving us with climate & infrastructure debt. And now, having left future generations worse off, would like to pull the ladder up from behind him.
But Nickel doesn't care about future generations. We all know that. I suppose he'd like to sell off EPCOR too? It only issues $171 million in dividends/yr.

This is fiscally irresponsible.

@Scott_McKeen "If I could vote no twice, then I would do that". YUP.
Admin: "It's an asset that makes $ at a greater rate than we borrow". In other words, we'd be better off borrowing because of the difference in interest rates.

Paying today vs. paying WAY more tomorrow. That sounds like it's right up his alley. Okay, this motion makes sense.👍🏼
"It's like refinancing your house to buy furniture. Or maybe a payday loan expecting a raise, except we might get laid off. Except it's not even our house. We manage it in trust." Thank you @Ward4Aaron.
Frankly, as a young person, I'm very tired of having my future mortgaged by "fiscal conservatives" like this.
Nickel deflecting. "It's not me that's reckless. It's you." He's talking about preventing long-term negative impacts. Talking about "big picture"...

These are theatrics so he can declare he went after a 2% tax decrease, when it reality what he's fighting for is a 7% increase.
"Thank you, your time is up" from @doniveson.

I hope that's the message that voters give Mike Nickel in the next election.

Motion fails. As. It. Should. #yegcc
