Japan entered WW2 with 10 aircraft carriers

The largest and most modern carrier fleet in the world at the time, it changed the nature of naval warfare forever

Carriers became the most valuable assets in every navy

They were protected at all costs, and attacked relentlessly
The Akagi was one of the most illustrious carriers in the Imperial Japanese Navy

Originally built as a battlecruiser, it was converted to an aircraft carrier in the late 30's

It was the flagship for the attack on Pearl Harbor

Planes from the Akagi torpedoed 7 ships that day
In the Indian Ocean Raid

Planes from Akagi sank:

British heavy cruisers Cornwall & Dorsetshire

British aircraft carrier Hermes

Australian destroyer Hermes

British corvette Hollyhock

British oil tanker Athelstone

And struck port facilities and shot down dozens of aircraft
In the Battle of Midway

Akagi repelled attacks from 4 B-26 Marauders

12 B-17 Flying Fortresses

29 Douglas TBD Devastators

And 18 Douglas SBD-2 Dauntless Dive Bombers

But the 19th SBD, piloted by Richard Best, landed a critical strike that detonated in Akagi's upper hangar
Akagi had been a devastating force in the Pacific in WW2

And survived countless attacks

However

It only takes one bomb to sink an aircraft carrier

Throw enough bombs at it

And one will get through

Japan lost four carriers at Midway

And, arguably, the war
It's like this with modern litigation

Dozens of lawsuits have been filed over the 2020 Presidential election

Most will never even come close to the Supreme Court

A few will be heard

But it only takes one to settle the matter

Nobody remembers the bombs and torpedoes that miss
