I really don't see how the GOP can be so blown away amazed that Biden won. I'm not sure if they're just being disingenuous. Certainly the politicians know the way it works. The more credulous rubes, the cult of personality, the undereducated & overly aggrieved, the indoctrinated
racists may be sincere in their disbelief. But they must not have been paying attention. All that fresh sea air from their time on the water. The Illiberal Armada mistaking their hootenannies for political activism. In any 1 single day, Stacey Abrams motivated more people than
a loud, crass, flag waving, smaller boat swamping floating collection of bottom feeder big shots. From the pussy hat marches to the floods of protestors (and LAWYERS, saints in their professions) at airports during the travel ban to the daily marchers protesting George Floyd the
writing was on the wall. Sure Twitter isn't the real world. And polling is seemingly something we put way. way too much faith in, but the people around Trump had to know that we were done, done, done. Before he even announced that he was running Joe Biden was in the lead (sure
the polling issue was in play but a straight forward poll like that doesn't have the same issues as the later election polls). Trump never had a popularity poll average of over 48% & almost always lingered in the low 40s. We sent a signal in 2018. And he never once made a real
play for us. Never tried to lure us over by making concessions. Or even making visits. Even the Democrats he managed to win over he did by playing on their grievances (the easily discernible rifts in the big tent). He played on people's fear; he did not appeal to their decency.
He pulled off former Democrats who were attracted to his phony macho poses & his fake camaraderie. I was someone who thought his 2020 voters would be his 2016 voters minus the ones who were disgusted and failed. While I feared that he could replicate his win I never ever even
suspected that 10,000,000 people would fall for his conman snake oil pitches. His 2020 voters are really a cynical, jaded, selfish, hateful lot. But still, while there were plenty of factors that could have led to a win, like his incumbency, his pre-COVID economy (an offshoot of
Obama's of course, but still an achievement) the polarization of the country, and the disenfranchisement of voters, it was obvious that Biden was quietly getting the job done where it needed to be done. The GOP isn't really even claiming fraud. They know the votes are there.
They just think that the race should be overturned because voting was easy. And therein lies the proof that they know we won. They know that we outnumber them. They know that we wanted Joe and Kamala. They know that from January 21, 2016 we were committed. They're a bunch of
liars and conmen. They're indoctrinated into the cult of Trump. They don't care about the rule of law. They don't care about anything but power. And I am so incredibly relieved that we won big. I have nightmares about what a win that mirrored Trump's might have led to. Anyway,
I'd be lying if I said that I had complete sangfroid regarding the legal challenges. But too many people who are infinitely smarter than I are insisting that Trump is done. Even if he'll never lie down and die.
