1/ Me on skynews. The Facebook case is historic, and we're seeing regulators finally reach for the powers that they've always had to hold monopolies to account. But it's just the beginning. Merger control is critical to ensuring we don't end up right back where we started. https://twitter.com/NEON_UK/status/1337349053483511808
2/ Facebook says consumers love their product and choose FB everyday. But we don't really know what consumers might choose if they had any alternatives. FB documents show a systematic campaign to buy, clone or kill rivals to build monopoly. That's illegal.
3/ More than anything this case (and Google case, the UK DMU, the German cases, the EU DMA/DSA) are pushing the issues of democracy and privacy and power back into the antitrust debate, and pushing competition policy into public discourse. This may be the most important impact.
4/ Nick Clegg has his work cut out for him. Regulators are gearing up. This is as it should be. There should be no quiet life for monopolists, democratic accountability must follow.
