I’m not the first to make this observation and granted it’s apples and oranges, but reaction to the red house defense vs reaction to Malheur occupation is informative.
Otoh you have malheur where a bunch of heavily armed militia men from out of state invaded a bird sanctuary, occupying and threatening the local community with the threat of rifles. Their cause? Getting the state to drop charges against a family that set multiple dangerous arson
Fires that were a threat to no small number of people. Why? Because they didn’t want to pay their grazing fees. As far as media, only a small number of handpicked media was allowed to enter. The community and workers around the sanctuary? Well they were shit out of luck
For a month. Funny enough the hammonds had already plead guilty, so one could assume this was just a rather dangerous publicity stunt by the Bundy’s, who again don’t live here. The occupation ended with one militiaman dead and presidential pardons for the few charges they caught.
Compare to the red house, where there was no armed takeover, just a few brave citizens running off cops with their rage and some rocks. No occupation, the neighborhood can come and go as they please, no businesses shuttered, only some precautionary boarded windows, basically
Life is going on as normal in the neighborhood. Media was simply asked not to take photos of faces without consent, yet that’s being treated as some massive affront to their existence. There’s no visible armed checkpoints yet local LE is lying and saying there is.
And what’s the goal? To keep a poor family from being thrown out on the street during a pandemic. The only significant violence is from a handful of outside fascist agitators throwing incendiaries and spraying chemicals at the barricades.
Oh and everyone holding space at the red house lives in Portland. Despite all of this the media/right wing narrative is of a violent communist takeover of Portland. The mayor and cops are making inflammatory falsehoods to scare the public, who are in no way effected.
No one knows how it will end but I won’t be holding my breath for presidential pardons for those that caught charges, certainly if we had a firefight with the fbi we would all be dead. There really is two different set of rules for the white and wealthy and for the poor and black
The white and wealthy are deemed anti government freedom fighters. The poor and black are called terrorists, same story that plays out everywhere across the globe.
