Another week of boring/predictable Italian politics goes by. Renzi threatens the govt, knowing fresh elections would likely cut his Parliamentary contingent down to a handful of people (if he's lucky), & with it party funding he relies on.

Conte asks for "responsible behaviour"
The PD? I am not sure.

Renzi needs visibility & is getting his fair share of it, but while we are possibly heading towards a govt reshuffle (the mythical "rimpasto") I cannot see that any of these political giants have the courage to risk fresh elections in middle of a pandemic.
They weren't well placed before, if they do a Boris Johnson now I doubt voters will want to reward them. Price for holding on until 2023 is huge:

1. Several Parliamentarians won't be coming back and know it (remember: their nr has been cut);
2. Bring down Conte now & who is going to allocate the goodies of the Recovery Plan, & to whom?

3. Hold on, & you'll be among those who led the country out of the pandemic;

4. Hold on, & you get to elect the next President of the Republic.
I know it, you know it & they do as well.

Still, the show has just begun, so sit tight & enjoy it if you haven't fallen asleep already. It's bound to last until Christmas, or even early Jan, until they'll agree to "relaunch" the govt as: "finally everything has been clarified"
