Yes, I am incredibly upset that Viv avoided calling aromanticism an orientation by saying she’d never be coy with orientations EXCEPT the “romantic aspect”...

It really feels like people’s personal fantasies are treated as more valuable and with more respect that aromanticism

Loads of people know that aromantics have relationships—often unconventional—and plenty aros search for queer platonic partners

Yet here in the fandom, people are so afraid of aromanticism that not even the creator wants to say it outright besides vaguely confirming it

If you’re fine with all sorts of non canon ships outside of canon orientations, yet can’t handle Alastor being aroace, check yourself.

If you hate all ships outside of canon orientations, chill the f*ck out. It’s not changing canon, and people who attack others for not follow canon are part of the PROBLEM causing aromanticism to be invalidated here

Faust was the only one who had the guts to outright confirm Al’s aromanticism. It upsets me that Viv has been so harassed by shippers that she feels the need to hide what she literally says is his canon romantic orientation.

Furthermore, aromantic asexuals do NOT have a preference on gender. We LACK attraction to any gender which literally means that we are generally fine with relationships with ANY gender

So congrats. Aroace Al can be in relationships with men women and anyone inbetween

Sure Al is touch averse as well—confirmed by Viv—but use this as a way to diversify your representation of relationships

Explore different ways that Al can make it work

Aroaces are not antisocial hermits. Sure, there are sex averse or romance averse people, but even we enjoy certain things through companionship. We do still love. We just don’t conventionally show it and our values are different

So LEARN about types of relationships and ask the aroace community about their perspectives. Even if you decide to ship outside of canon—which you TOTALLY can—just accept and be respectful of canon orientations and how people resonate with them

You can ship outside of any orientation as long as you don’t denounce or bitch about the canon one. Invalidating and outright fearing a simple orientation is incredibly hurtful

Yes, I understand that some people don’t believe Al is aro due to Viv’s vague responses (twice now), but you can still respect aromanticism by being okay if it is canon and understanding that it is just like any other orientations with nuance and a different type of love

So that’s it. That’s my tea

Tbh, I’ve been too afraid to really say this because I know people are going to get mad. But this isn’t an attack on anyone

I just want aromanticism to be accepted and for it to no longer be invisible or treated like less than everything else
