. @indians Hear me out. Those screaming about losing the team’s history: one of the former names of this same franchise is the Blues. You could return to it without “erasing” any history. (1/ )
Cleveland was built by men and women who moved here for a chance at a better life that would be defined by hard work. Work in steel mills, on the ports on the lake and building the skyline that defines us. (2/ )
This franchise has been here through innovation and invention- carriages to street cars to the automobile. The building of the terminal tower. The building of organized labor to represent the workers (3/ )
Every time we try to do something clever, they try to tie things to the rock n roll HOF. We are proud of that history, but we could take this opportunity to skip the played out music themes and pay homage to those who built this city. (4/ )
Re-name this franchise it’s former name, The Blues. Keep the History and the Records in tact and honor the Blue Collar men and women whose sweat and blood made us who we are. (5/ )
Cleveland was built on hard work. It is still personified by its hard-working citizens. Clevelanders built League Park, built Municipal, built the Jake. We aren’t the richest, our lives aren’t all glamorous. We WORK. (6/ )
Is there a better comparison to this Team? We don’t have the highest paid players or team payroll. We can’t overspend to fix our mistakes. We grind and fight and claw our way up with hard work and love of the game. (7/ )
Bottom line: this is a Blue Collar Town and we are a Blue Collar Team. Honor the men and women of CLE and call this team the Blues again. Short for the Blue Collars. (8/ )
Need a logo? How about an unfinished Terminal Tower? Our first skyscraper still showing some of the exposed I-Beams. An homage to the mill workers and construction tradesmen. A reminder that when things were hard, through a depression, we rose! (9/ )
Sports has always been an important part of this City. This franchise (The Blues/Bronchos/Naps/Indians) has been here to see our rise, our struggles, and current attempt at rebuilding & redefining ourselves. (10/ )
Change is hard and people resist, but it’s time. To me, this is the only real choice to honor this team and this city. Using this name keeps the history and honors the people who are angry we are making a change as well as those who want it. #ClevelandBlues
