Some brief thoughts. Galileo went down for six hours, which is bad. We also only heard an official acknowledgement after 12 hours or so. The good news however is that @EU_GNSS was able to restore service. As we know from last year, this is not a given. 1/3
The way a GNSS constellation works is that the performance of all clocks and the orbits of all satellites are permanently modeled. If that model is lost, regaining a fit on the system is exceptionally difficult & can take a day or more. 2/3
I have no details on what happened, or on if they performed a fail-over from Fucino or Oberpfaffenhofen or vice versa. But in any case, service was restored after an actual disastrous event. Within the bad news, this is a spot of good news - this is pretty good work. 3/3
