I’m often hit with “but how long will the rebuild take” or “it’s not progressing fast enough”, so here’s my take on how I think #MUFC will plot the evolution of this project under Solskjaer, in terms of where they should be & when

18/19 (part szn): lift mood, formulate plan...
19/20: Main goals: trim deadwood/ageing players; re-establish wage structure; initiate new transfer/scouting procedures; rebuild culture; develop youth, et al

Highly desirable: UCL qualification (perhaps not essential if all above were done well)

Helpful: win a trophy...
20/21: At playing staff level: communicate every game is winnable, & every cup the target

At board level: UCL qualification; advance playing style (more goals, control, maturity, confidence); significantly cut gap on City/Liverpool

Cup win not essential, but highly desirable...
20/21 Caveat: Circumstances have changed emphatically (Covid/opponent injuries) since initial season targets were set

Now, likely an acknowledgement that there’s an outside shot at a legitimate title challenge, but would still be remarkable with avrg. age currently 25.6...
21/22: Legitimate title challenge; win a trophy

(Squad to reach approx. 27 average age during season; all deadwood gone; key holes filled; young players have enough experience)

22/23: Win title, if not already achieved

Squad at maturity. Challenge yearly while recycling team.
This has always been my view of the timeline. Only Covid has slightly changed that since Day 1 of realising the plan

Nb: also a chance Utd could be say 5 points off top but 5th this szn. That may still be enough progress (depending on other factors), but challenge next szn vital
