I don't discuss my projects on Twitter but this is an exception because it is epic.

TLDR: food will follow retail, cloud kitchens will level up local restaurants & Gary V is a genius.

Here goes

👇
In 2019, I got a chance to see a functional @cloudkitchens facility. My immediate reaction was holy s*** this is going to change EVERYTHING.

If you don't know what it is -- here's a feature I wrote. https://superfood.substack.com/p/exclusive-an-inside-look-at-cloudkitchens
You can now build & launch a delivery-only restaurant within minutes -- like you'd do with a DTC store on Shopify today.

Food was going to follow retail.

The next obvious idea was celebrity food brands!

So I hit up up the two ppl I thought would GET it. @nasdaily & @garyvee
...and they'd be open to launching their own global food brand.

This was in August 2019 before anyone had done it - risky!

@nasdaily wasn't sure but was a total sport. We piloted it - but didn't launch eventually because he got busy with @NASAcademy.

But here's NAS FOODS!
Next up, Gary V.

Ultimate KING! He got it within 60 seconds of our phone call and said

"let me stop you there. When can you get on a flight to NYC?"

"48 hours."

"Alright, get here."

So I get on a flight to NYC.
For various reasons that i cannot discuss, we weren't able to launch then.

To memorialize it, we signed... this 🤣 & agreed to revisit asap.

Credit to him for signing the first celebrity food brand deal 🐐

Vayner pizza anyone?🤞
Side note:

Gary has thought through how social media will impact every imaginable industry and I promise you he gets social media on a level nobody I have met does.🕴️‍♂️
What now?

Covid has accelerated this. Many restaurants will never open again.

If you're a restaurant:

1. Move to a virtual kitchen
2. Bring on an influencer as a *co-founder* -- eg., equity or income share
4. Get delivering! Expand geos!

This is the future of food.
On the tech side, we need to develop products that can LEVEL UP:

- chefs to start restaurants
- restaurants to start chains

If you're building something here, DM me!

I'd love to feature your work on a niche food tech publication I write (link in bio).
I think @CloudKitchens will be the Shopify of restaurants.

Deep software + hardware stack that will level up local chefs/restaurants.

Big Chains don't 'need' these kitchens. They'll build their own.

To my knowledge, Shervin was the first to see this. https://twitter.com/shervin/status/1277743288951271424?s=20
The 2020s were off to a rough start for restaurants

but this will be an insane, high-growth and promising decade for food entrepreneurs willing to pivot to delivery and win digital.
