Some huge news...in light of my consistent NHMRC and ARC funding failures, I have decided to step down from my role managing the flow and microscopes, and will begin the transition away from research, which includes slowly shutting my lab over the next 12 months.
It’s time to put my family first and devote more time to looking after their needs, rather than chasing what is now a very clear and impossible system to survive in here in Australia. I see no potential in the near future for funding success despite this years cat 6 scores.
It’s a scary but exciting time. I’ll be moving back to Queensland to be closer to family, and I’m excited to give greater support to my wife so that she can reach her career goals.
I’m in the very fortunate position to still have the opportunity to finish up the very exciting papers we currently have ongoing in the lab and can’t wait to share them in 2021.
I have no idea what the future will hold....I may even get back into research if things workout up north. It’s exciting and scary, but I’m sure now is the right time to try something new.
It’s been an honour and privilege to have had the opportunity to do this amazing job. I hope that the 60+ papers that we have published over the last 20+ years will have in some small way helped advance cancer research and improve patient outcomes.
I could not have achieved these successes without all of my lab mates, supervisors and students. Not to mention the amazing support from my wife.
Big thanks to everyone and to hope to see and continue following all of the awesome things everyone is achieving. Bring on 2021 🥳
1 final thing, if anyone is looking for work and would like to take over running a Flow/Microscope Facility in Sydney, please drop me a line as we are looking for a replacement. Great opportunity to be less reliant on grants and still potentially do research on the side
Wow, this thread is going off (for me)...I've always want to write this like everyone else does when something goes viral.......

I don't have a "Soundcloud" but you can buy my dodgy science pun t-shirts on Redbubble 😂🤣 https://www.redbubble.com/people/science-is-pun/shop
