It's because @blackwellbooks take an ONIX feed from @BdsFor who disseminate descriptive text as part of their service, whereas the same service for Nielsen, who are the sole providers of data to Waterstones, have that as a paid-for service, which @snowbooks can't afford (~£1000)
At an IPG conference some years ago I got the mic and asked James Daunt if he knew and was worried about taking a feed from a single source that publishers have to pay for, and wouldn't he rather take feeds direct from publishers, for better data?
His answer suggested that he isn't a computer person, so to speak. And nothing's changed since then.
