1. Never forget that the “wake-up call” many white evangelicals are experiencing right now didn’t come out of nowhere. It took the pain, trauma, & even spiritual crucifixion of a multitude of black & brown believers who cried out & were cast out all for trying to love them.
2. I truly pray that white evangelicals don’t interpret this “wake up call” as if it happened out the blue. Their are countless gravestones covering a spiritual gravesite where souls have been battered and left for dead all cuz they tried to wake their faith family up.
3. And this is the important point. Hear me. The cries and brokenness of black and brown Christians was not enough to wake many up. Their cries were ignored or considered over-dramatic. This “wake up call” required a sacrifice at an altar- The souls & mental health of black folk.
4. God is my witness, I don’t say these things b/c I want to twist the knife of conviction deeper into the hearts of my white faith family. 5. As white supremacists continue to March in the streets, and Christian denominations continue to devolve back into their “old ways”, don’t forget the cost of the prophets who tried to warn you & were more or less stoned. Some of us are still here, scars still healing.
