Northern Nigeria , National Unity & The Ordeal Of Self Centered Hypocrisy.
Nigeria was set up to fail by the British. That amalgamation was intentionally faulty for a strategic reason. It certainly gave unending elective power to the most populous yet highly underdeveloped region with conservative and extremist ideologies to ensure below par leadership.
This singular action gave room for a possibility for Nigeria to be governed by the least developed persons without nationwide acceptability whose entire popularity is peaking in one region solely for identifying with an ethnic leaning.
However, Nigeria has thrived on the path of sustainable unity and glory for a single reason. Ethnic champions never emerged & this is because regional numbers always came short & the lack of geo-spread and 25% in 2/3 of the 36 states made sure it was never the case.
Until two regional chieftains came together and formed an alliance that would go ahead to destabilize the unity and poison the air with bigotry. Like i always say, People only serve what they’re good at preparing.
If you know peace and tranquility, that is exactly what you’ll give to people. If you thrive on bigoted ideologies that identify with ethnicity, then you certainly can’t foster unity amidst diversity.
This is the reason Nigeria has never been this divided since the civil war than it is today. Neither Shagari nor Abiola nor Obasanjo nor Yar’adua nor Jonathan won Presidential elections to serve Nigeria simply for being popular in their regional backgrounds.
In all honesty, none of them was ever in true sense of it

The polity became poisonous in 2015 when the North and a portion of the southwest defied the unity formula and exposed the fault-lines of 1914. For the very first time ever, A President emerged mathematically even without votes coming from single state outside his region.
This was a recipe for serious disaster and it would go on to spark up hate & yearns for breakage from all angles. To justify this madness, another regional chieftain via the merger gave room for extra millions of votes and of course the 25% in 2/3 or 36 states.
By this, it meant Nigeria can continue to be governed by ethnic champions for years to come. The worst of us can’t represent the best of us simply for being popular in a geographical distribution that doesn’t represent all of us.
A dangerous precedent has been established and things have escalated terribly in just 5 years because today, any call for better governance is seen as a bigotry motivated move to shame the darling of the north.
Any form of protest is seen as a move to topple the government of the day. Bigotry motivated hypocrisy has made northerners refuse to call the government of the day to order for rampant killings by bandits and day to day kidnappings and abductions.
Recall that it was this same north that ramped up hate campaigns against the Jonathan administration that didn’t record the number or casualties we have today.
Under the darling of the North, Insecurity that used to be a thing of the North East alone today is the identity of the North.
From herdsmen in the North Central to Bandits and Kidnappers operating freely in the Northwest to Boko Haram slaughtering and beheading in the NorthEast.

But hypocrisy has made us lose that collective voice of rage and disdain to misgovernance that we once had. Jonathan was crucified for Chibok girls. Today no one is questioning or even pointing fingers at Buhari for Dapchi girls and Kankara boys.
Some even go further to say that Kankara boys is a staged stunt by the opposition to rubbish the darling of the North. HYPOCRISY will only make you lose any sense of reasoning and sanity. You’ll just be acting stupid and irrational.
Some often say GEJ’s nonchalance cost him. Well, Buhari’s nonchalance and gross absentee leadership makes GEJ’s nonchalance look like some myth. It still baffles many the number of deaths it’ll take for the north to speak with one voice against these unnecessary killings.
What surprises many all over Nigeria is that It took the barest minimum to mobilize protests and accountability campaigns against GEJ. Driven by hate ?
This madness started in 2003 when the north decided there must be a champion to wrestle power back to the North from Obasanjo like power is some birth right of anyone.
After all is said and done, the politics of bigotry that we engage in today is a terrible path that gradually eradicates accountability because we tend to condone, tolerate and embrace mediocrity all in a bid to feed some nonexistent idea of ethnic loyalty to the detriment of all
