/ Tech nerd rant time. Hear me out: I actually think AirPods Max are worth the money. They're also incredibly innovative, and a sign of what's to come.
/ In a big way, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max are the world's first mass market augmented reality headphones. Using spacial algorithms, Apple is able to map sound on top of space: like the surround sound of a movie, and the positioning of sounds when in transparency mode.
/ Apple has even filed patents for things like the virtual positioning of people: https://9to5mac.com/2019/11/27/ar-headphones/
It's easy to see how these AirPods Pro/Max could work in conjunction with other AR applications: games, iPhone/iPad apps, maybe Apple Glasses down the line.

/ In my eyes, this is part of why the company is pushing to get rid of ports, buttons, and holes on their devices: to get users to interact with one visual interaction layer.
/ With time, this interaction layer can move other applications—like augmented reality and VR—which eliminates further layers of abstraction between technology and direct experience.
