I’m not one for holier than thou tweets. But @CalgaryPolice just issued “safety recommendations” for reporters covering the ongoing “politically charged protests” in #yyc. Police have received reports of harassment and intimidation by groups that have an “anti-media” bias.
So it’s come to this has it? People who have chosen to bear witness so that their fellow citizens can be informed have become “a target for verbal abuse and intimidation”. In Canada. In 2020.
It’s a slow creep from that sort of crap to physical assault. All of this to say that the constant casual slagging of journalism so common on this platform and others has real world consequences.
And if those who are doing it from positions of power don’t think they are complicit they are lying to themselves and lying to you. Everyone has the right to work without threat of abuse. Actions have consequences. Please consider that before you post.
