People aren't a priori individualistic, that's what jaded misanthropes tell you when they realize they spend too much time on the internet. The reason America is on the precipice of decadence is b/c ppl *don't think abt* their societal duties, not b/c they believe they have none.
Jonathan Haidt's book The Righteous Mind is good on this subject.
LD is cool and certainly not a misanthrope, but he's definitely wrong diagnostically. People actually do believe they have a responsibility to others, but they are told that it is easy-peasy and substantially mostly informed by cultural hegemons. https://twitter.com/Logo_Daedalus/status/1340011019368865793?s=20
The "self-care" Gen Z girls are unhealthily coping, weekly bathbombs aren't their actual praxis. Even they, despite their current position as a cultural parasite, want good, constructive interpersonal relationships. They don't really want to be parasitic, it's a vengeance quest.
See below; and, the majority of people actually do want this. https://twitter.com/PYeerk/status/1320108726720909313?s=20
