the number of times I've been told there was no demand for books that are about friendships and not romances is mind-boggling, but the longer I spend on this hellsite talking about it and hearing your views, the more bullshit that argument reveals itself to be. there's demand.
I just hope it gets easier for writers to publish books like that. I can tell you that 5 years ago it was pretty fucking hard, & the lack of romance in a YA book was a reason that often got cited in rejections. but every book out there makes it a tiny bit easier for the next one.
anyway if you are writing a friendship-centered book, don't let people talk you out of it! in my experience it will find the readers who need it and it will be super rewarding when it does. (and as always I will boost the shit out of them if I am made aware of them!)
anyway I just wrote a whole essay on this so I'll shut up now but consider this account an ongoing pep talk to anyone who's writing character relationships that are deep, intimate, intense, & meaningful while also being 100% platonic
if you can't picture this, that's the problem
