What just is Metamorphosis or EMERGENCE all about? and should i read it?
(VERY LONG THREAD) (Warning for EXTREME NSFW topics, viewer discretion is advised)
Quick answer: You shouldn't. Not unless you're 100% sure about what you're actually going into here. Metamorphosis (変身, Henshin), also published as Emergence, is a hentai manga written by American-Japanese mangaka Shindo L.
Now before we actually go into the actual story, meaning, and even a brief synopsis of it. there is A LOT to unpack in terms of content and trigger warnings. /srs
take a quick look at the tags that the official manga is tagged as. Terrifying huh?
The tags don't do its justice though, it's barely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what's actually in the manga itself. Again, serious warning ahead, I don't mean it lightly when I say this gets messed up, and quickly too.
I'll censor everything I can.

if you're thinking "oh it can't be that bad"
you're wrong.
When Saki Yoshida (pictured below) graduated middle school and entered high school, she decided to try and become a more social person, with her mother's help she fixes up her appearance, which transforms her from a plain girl to a beauty. (also below)
// rape
Saki gets picked up by a guy named Hayato, her not knowing his intentions, follows him to a karaoke bar and ends up having a good time, Hayato comes on to her and convinces her to take drugs, she takes it not fully knowing what it is and ends up having sex with Hayato.
A week later, she finds herself not fitting in with her classmates due to her not owning the expensive fashion accessories and stuff they have, when she expresses this to her friends, they peer pressure her into engaging in compensated dating.
her escort client turns out to be an old man, who then tries to make advances on her, but she is unable to fight him off like she was told to, they end up having sex when he offers Saki extra money.
One of her classmates inform her that they saw her coming out of a hotel, desperate not to let this information leak, she offers to do anything for them, they take advantage of this and ask her for sexual favors, as this spreads
More and more people blackmail her and she has no choice but to have sex with them, this causes a bad reputation to spread about her and results in her suffering from bullying.
// rape
On top of that, she ends up getting regularly raped by her father because she reminded him of a younger version of her mother.
When her father is found out for this, her mother blames her and accuses her of seducing him and kicks her out, now homeless with no where to go, she contacts the only person in her life she has left - Hayato.
// drug use
Hayato is in debt for not paying for the drugs he purchased and is in trouble, he gets Saki to sniff cocaine and gets her high, she agrees to have sex and engage in prostitution to pay back Hayato's debt to save him.
During all of this, she gets piercings while high
Here is where it starts to truly kick in, I'll censor as much nudity as possible.
Saki ends up completely transforming her appearance - getting tattoos, dying her hair blonde, getting a tan and wearing skimpy clothes, getting pregnant, she is manipulated into aborting the child.
She contacts her first escort client, but he doesn't want her anymore due to her no longer having a pure and innocent appearance, telling her that she was worth less than a cheap prostitute, which leads her to question her worth.
She gives the guy a discount and begs him until he finally accepts to offer, after having sex with him, she lies to Hayato that the client bailed on her to hide the fact that she'd given him a discount, but receives no reply.
// rape
Worried, she heads over to Obata-san's store to check if Hayato had been there, when she arrives there, she ends up getting drugged and forcefully gang-banged by him and two of his customers and then dumped into the trash, with Hayato's money, drugs and her phone stolen
She tries to request help from Obata-san scared of what Hayato would do, he agrees to pay her if she paid him back with her body and offers her two options a packet of drugs or a wad of cash, she tries to bring herself to pick the cash but ends up giving in to her drug addiction
// rape
When Hayato finds out about what happened, he beats her and kicks her out. now homeless once more, wanders around aimlessly until her want for drugs kicks in again and she ends up masturbating in the park bench while high and gets raped by two homeless men
// vomit
After she falls unconscious the men decide to give her some food and carry her to a shanty town where they live, she pukes her guts out and realizes that she's pregnant once again,
But this time she decides not to abort the baby and to change herself for the better and be a good mother, she gathers up money for her baby by having sex with random men. She still is unable to get over her drug addiction however.
Her old classmates stumble upon her and don't recognize her when they see all the cash she'd saved up, they assume she's a thief, She tries to run away but she's caught and beat up by them, kicking her womb, shoving things inside of her, take pictures, and steal all her money.
She finds a pair of broken glasses and puts them on, crying while looking at herself in the mirror as it reminded her of her older self, breaks the mirror in a fit of rage then crawls underneath the sink, crying and apologizing to her baby that she wouldn't be able to be a mother
She takes all the drugs she has remaining and uses them all, admitting to herself that she's a weak person and wouldn't be able to control herself, her story ends with her dying of a drug overdose, with a smile on her face.
Right before her death, she imagines what her life could've been if she had been able to change herself and raise her child.
And now, the conclusion.
Metamorphosis was truly a beautiful yet tragic tale, at first I was a bit skeptical due it being a hentai, but soon enough I found myself completely immersed in the manga, all my doubts washing away,
sexuality and sex, in general, is used to represent Saki falling deeper and deeper into a hole, it's extremely creative and executed very well on top of that.

One of the things that hit me the hardest about this manga was the fact that this is a very real situation,
that something like this could be happening in the world right this moment.

This truly demonstrated that not every story can have a happy ending, it's still very depressing to think of what Saki's life could've been
Throughout the course of this manga, all I wanted to do was help Saki and give her a hug, I wanted her to find a kind guy who would help her and live out a happy life after giving birth so badly,
but life is no fairy tale, it's cruel, unforgiving and happy endings aren't that common, this manga just did a spectacular job at demonstrating that, the ending fit the overall theme of this story perfectly.
I would 100% recommend Metamorphosis to anyone who can handle it, even if you don't like or enjoy it, at the end of the day it has something very meaningful to say that left a huge impact on me, which is why I think it's worth experiencing.
If you've made it this far, congratulations. This isn't a thread to make you read it, it is so obvious not for everyone, this is more a learning experience for anyone who's WILLING to read it. Do not force anyone to read it, there is alot i left out because its so /much/
