It's okay if you don't like a record. But someone else likes it and they don't care if you don't. Running a record shop as an adult has really cemented in me the belief that I truly don't care what someone likes as long as they're into music.
I carry tons of records that I don't like, bands I fundamentally can not stand listening to. But if I played my label releases all day at the shop most of my customers would hate that. Neither of us are wrong. And that's chill. We are both chilling there loving records.
@AJJtheBand said it best "Welcome to this world have as much fun as you like while helping others have as much fun as you're having." Some of my favorite lyrics of all time and what I view as the root purpose of all music.
Even if having fun means listening to some very cathartic, dark, or depressing stuff. It's channeling energy. It's serving your soul. The person next to you can be listening to Swift and have the same emotional response. How sick is that. The definition of beauty and art.
Sorry to all the culties that follow the label and still didn't know I'm a posi diy kid inside ✌️
Helping people find music has literally given my life meaning. I've been helping folks find bands and records for over half my life in one capacity or another. Why would I want to entertain anyone that shits on the happiness I've seen in those peoples' faces.
