I've been excited to see the results of #HCWvsHunger the last few days, and the power of #medtwitter.
A brief thread on where to go from here, as we all look out for our patients, and hunger is an important #SDoH

Disclaimer: my amazing wife works for a hunger relief agency here in Washington, which is why I haven't directly participated in #HCWvsHunger. A very small fraction comes back to my household.
As I said, food insecurity is an important #SDoH, so be sure to screen for it, as recommended by @AmerAcadPeds. Even for adults...you may not have immediate solutions to offer, but it helps shape your management plan.
Food insecurity also know no season, so keep giving! Your local organization probably has more buying power than you, so direct monetary donations are the most effective.
Also: look for organizations that don't just provide direct food support (although this is important), but who advocate addressing the root causes of food insecurity. They should have lobbyists!
And support politicians who champion this issue. One example is @RepKimSchrier, the only pediatrician in Congress, and who secured a place on the Ag committee to help address food insecurity.
Again, a huge thank you to @acweyand and all of #medtwitter who contributed.
I can say I've seen how hard hunger relief agencies have been working these last 9 months, and how they are carrying a weight similar to those of us in health care.

The #HCWvsHunger hashtag ends at 12/21/20 at 12 pm ET, but let's not let the fight against food insecurity end there.
Our patients deserve that.
