While I was on my break, I finished Umineko When They Cry. I actually have no idea if this is my favorite piece of media or not, it's like a 3 way tie now. But it's undoubtedly one of the most beautiful works of fiction out there, and one I believe everyone should read.
Umineko is a love letter for storytelling at its finest. Throughout the episodes, it built a captivating mystery that never broke my engagement. The range of emotions that I felt throughout were huge. Happiness, sadness, anger, confusion..all while being an intelligently crafted-
plot with wit and heart. Amazing. The characters were human and nuanced, empowered by the heartfelt voice acting. They all served their function to the story and added to the experience in many ways. Some colorful, some bleak. Ryukishi is a master at writing memorable characters.
The themes and message really spoke out to me though. I've stated before it felt as if the ideas of love, truth, etc. mirrored my own. And the message it conveyed wonderfully wrapped the story up in its own special way. It's such an accomplishment in that sense.
