There are 3,116 pages of non-spending-COVID provisions in the COVID-relief spending bill that have major legislation in it that has not moved through regular order. This bill is the worst Christmas tree I have ever seen. This is pathetic. Leadership should be ashamed. 1/9
There is no way a member of Congress can look at this and understand what is in this bill. Nor their staff. They should eliminate that entire section. Some highlights I have found already: 2/9
1) Amending PAYGO 2) The Nat'l Defense AgroBio Act on responding to agro/bio attacks. 3) Not requiring Carbon monoxide monitors out of federal housing. 4) a Major Federal housing bill 5) 2 copyright bills, including one that creates an entire new court in the Copyright Office 3/9
6) Trademark reform. 7) A pipeline infrastructure bill that I have no idea what it does. 8) Lots of enviro stuff I cannot tell if its good or bad. I can go on, but I have only made it through the first 262 pages of over 3300 4/9
This is a terrible way to legislate and a terrible way to run our government. For democrats, this type of bullcrap is what makes people hate government, not trust it and support the Trumps of the world. Delete the whole section and move the rest of the bill. Pathetic. 5/9
I have been working on public policy in DC for 18 years. I have never seen anything like this before, at all. There were attempts to do this on the 2009 stimulus that ultimately failed and the bill was limited to its purpose. 6/9
I have no idea if the bill as a whole is good or bad. But neither will the people who vote on it. And because it contains needed relief and keeps the government open, they will have to vote for it. It's a complete and utter abuse of our legislative process and our democracy. 7/9
I don't care if this pisses off my friends on the Hill. This bill is the single worst procedural piece of crap that Congress will ever vote on. And to tell you how mad I am, leave in CASE and delete the rest. It's not just about the issues I work on. It's much, much bigger. 8/9
Our legislature is broken and is in desperate need of fixing. I am someone from inside the house sounding the alarm. Hopefully folks will listen. 9/9
