oh boy christmas came early
it seems pre release switch sdk and documentation has been leaked, no clue if this is from the wack0 file dump or what
people are claiming the SDK is from 2015 which is incredibly, ridiculously ancient if so
very curious if this is true but so far Nobody has the files as theyre dl-ing slow as shittttt
A lot of the files pertaining to security for Switch and the Switch update, 'mariko' are in here, showing Nintendo's security research and notes. They apparently watched the 32c3 3DS hacking talk?
Apparently Neimod from the 3DS hacking scene worked with Nintendo to explain his 3DS exploits, and analyze possible solutions, and Nintendo went as far as planning to hire him, attempting to...curry favor, by giving prototypes and cool hardware samples???
Nintendo apparently, really, REALLY wanted this guy
this is so...funny????
nintendo has a specific PR plan for 'if' the public finds out that they hired a hacker from the homebrew scene
These archives seem to have a bit of 3DS hardware testing files lying around, as I assume these are files from when they got started on migrating 3DS system files to Switch.
There's a fair bit of what look like factory hardware testing stuff!
The 3DS factory test includes, among other things for the GPU, lighting an apple.
In other words, you quite literally won't make it out of the factory unless you can imagine an apple.
lol
Found the files myself for Nintendo's plans to work with hackers from the community. There's initial research here on how to approach it, with a spreadsheet listing how much money other tech companies give for bounties, along with a study on how useful bounties are.
Found the funny image everyone likes. It's in a folder on amiibo stuff.
Also, found an interesting briefing on attempts at amiibo security! It seems NERD had to discourage Nintendo from putting security signatures in amiibo because of how easy they'd be to dump and exploit...
The target lifetime for the 3DS was "5 years"
Switch name was decided on way back in 2014
This isn't for the 3DS, nevermind
this data sheet is very difficult to read, but my understanding is this is for old old switch plans instead https://twitter.com/orcastraw/status/1341192724314263552?s=20
There's a very confusing sheet outlining all the hardware features for a console, and I've studied it. Here's what I know. Nintendo's original Switch concept used an SoC from AT Ericcson. This console was to support 3D video, and be backwards compatible with the 3DS seemingly.
This console was to support Streetpass, Spotpass, and Pedometer features, like the 3DS. It was not decided, but the final device would sport 1, or two screens, likely one, however this screen would cap out at 480p. Here's a glimpse at power profiles for what it can do.
This device would be able to broadcast video through Miracast, meaning that, potentially, this concept would be for a portable console that does NOT dock into a TV, instead displaying video to a TV wirelessly, while still having the unit usable, similar to the WiiU Gamepad.
Ah, I forgot about this section, this datasheet is very hard to read...
To lend more evidence to this concept, the datasheet outlines in very specific tech talk as to how the console would use Miracast, speficially saying "to the TV".
Remember 'Smash World'? For Smash Ultimate? This name may have a much...older origin, it seems that the Switch powered by AT would support video capture like the current switch would, with the ability to add video/audio "commentary". You could then upload it to "Nintendo World".
I can only suspect that Nintendo World was to be a Miiverse followup.
This ST Switch datasheet outlines functionality for video and voice "conferencing" while playing a game. I can only imagine this to be functionality that allows video calling while gaming on the console! A true followup to the Wii U Video Chat app...
The ST Switch would have dedicated hardware to facilitate the 3DS backwards compatibility.
The ST Switch would have 1 Gigabyte of RAM. It also would support 480p video on the Cameras! Additionally, it would possibly allow you to resume play from Sleep Mode by pressing a gesture, although this wasn't finalized, as the Sleep Mode section doesn't have an "OK" on it.
These hardware plans are from 2014, although most of it was from 2013...
The CPU and exact SoC used here are not very clear, and I can only imagine the exact setup was more custom than just off the shelf stuff.
Some files refer to the ST 8680, which uses ARM A15, not exactly powerful.
The datasheet I looked in mentioned an ARM A53, also not powerful.
