A lot of people ask me to mentor them, and as someone who has had a few mentors myself, I thought I'd chat about mentorship, thread!
Mentorship is a relationship, it's like a friendship, you gotta wait for it to develop, now sometimes you'll be assigned a mentor, but if you want to continue that you need to put effort in just like a friendship. And sometimes it doesn't work out, and that's okay!
Mentoring is like being a sign post a lot of the time, it's not as clear as "I am the font of all knowledge" it's more like "Have you tried googling [specific search term]?" or "he's an article I read on something similar"
Mentoring isn't someone doing something for you, especially in bug bounty! A mentor is a kind of person who you can bounce ideas off, or discuss an odd bug with, someone who is more experienced and can lend you their brain
You can't just ask someone to be your mentor, you can ask for mentorship for a particular problem (I've tired x, y and z and I still can't find a bug), but that mentor relationship develops over time, like you ask many questions regarding bug hunting
You should have something to offer your mentor back, you don't need know anything, even top hunters can find someone to bounce ideas off of useful, or explaining to you can help them to better understand the problems they're having, it's never a take relationship-you need to give
A lot of people have anxiety and/or may not like close social relationships like a mentor/mentee relationship, don't force it! Give people some space, and if you want someone to mentor you and they say no, accept that graciously!
