I’ve been thinking of the word localization a lot recently, and I think one thing people need to realize is:
All translation is localization, but not all localization is translation.
The very action of converting text originally from one language to another is localizing.

Because the point of translating is to convey a message in one language to another, and you can’t do that without adjusting SOMETHING, whether it’s 1 to 1 or something more liberal.
As many of you know, I tend to focus on trying to convey feeling above all, but that isn’t to say that’s the point way one must translate. I just consider it the most appropriate for what I translate personally.
Take the translation you would see in a book teaching Japanese. It would be much more appropriate for the phrasing to be more literal, because the point is to teach you how the language works.
