We should do a 12 days of Rest-mas. To encourage people to rest before the new year.
On the first day of Rest-Mas, take a nap. Seriously. You will feel much better for it. The holidays don’t have to be manic. You will be better for that nap. Take some valerian root and/or melatonin if you need some help.
On the second day of Rest-Mas, choose one or more social network to stay off of for a day or two. Reflect on how you felt during your time away. Social networks can really ratchet up your anxiety, doubt, stress, and imposter syndrome.
On the third day of Rest-Mas, get ready for bed a hour earlier. Even if you don’t get to sleep a hour earlier, sometimes just being in your jammies is much needed. If you have time, maybe throw on a face mask too.
On the fourth day of Rest-Mas: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Your body is a pretty good filtration system, but you need to run some water through those cells to help it filter things out. Good for your body and mind. Up your water intake.
On the fifth day of Rest-Mas, schedule time with your therapist. Don’t have one? Then schedule time to do something healing for your self. Meditate. Journal. Take another nap.
On the sixth day of Rest-Mas, do some stretching. Find a simple YouTube video for stretching or do some yoga. You’ve been sitting for too long, and also all your stress is getting stored in your muscles. Bonus points for stretching when you wake up and before you sleep.
On the seventh day of Rest-Mas, for real take another nap. Bonus points if you do it in your most comfortable jammies.
On the eighth day of Rest-Mas, read or listen to a book for fun. Something that is not for productivity, or money. Just pure enjoyment.
On the ninth day of Rest-Mas, set up time to talk to someone you love. Talk about whatever, plants, books, TV, maybe something you’re struggling with. Just make sure to have a chill and meaningful connection.
On the tenth day of Rest-Mas, make some time to daydream. Not plan. Not execute. Focus on time to dream. The @TheNapMinistry is the first person who made me consider that we never take time to daydream and how dangerous it is not to make time for that.
On the eleventh day of Rest-Mas, say no to something you don’t want to do. Maybe that means presents won’t be wrapped, or maybe that means not taking on a new project, but you will feel so much better for saying no.
