On Dec. 11th I tested positive for COVID-19. I wanted to share a little about my experience. 1/
Let me start by first explaining how I caught it. My housemate worked closely with someone who tested positive for covid several weeks prior. It was well known they had it. 2/
However, their employer did not send the rest of the staff to get tested and my housemate did not go on his own accord as he "felt fine". The two week delay, between him knowing he was exposed and getting tested, is when I caught it. 3/
This has been one of the worst experiences of my life. I have never felt pain like this. It's easily the most sick I have ever been. For 11 days my symptoms kicked the hell outta me. It felt like months. 4/
I coughed so violently that I would puke, my fever ran as high as 103.4° and I had a fever one until a day or two ago. I could barely stand, walk, talk, sleep, or eat. I had diarrhea, a throbbing headache, muscle aches, and the chills. I even lost 11lbs. 5/
At one point my oxygen levels were so low and my breathing so shallow that I had to spend several hours in the ER. The staff were great and very kind but it was lonely. I can't imagine being there for weeks or months. Here's a photo. 6/
I had never felt so sick in my life. Thankfully I'm almost fully recovered. I thank God and all those who prayed for me. I know there was many. 7/
Please wear a mask, wash your hands, and if you interact with someone who has covid PLEASE get tested and follow proper guidelines - even if you feel fine. My situation could have been avoided had my housemate and others had taken it more seriously and acted sooner. 8/
For those who are still downplaying the seriousness of this; I hope you do not get it. It is brutal - I know it impacts us all differently - but if you develop symptoms you're in for an awful time. I can promise you that. 9/
Lastly, thank you to my fiancée who tasked herself with looking after me for nearly 2 weeks and bravely tended to my every need. I probably wouldn't have made it without her or her demanding I go to the ER. I am grateful to have such a brilliant teammate. 10/10
