The trying to be objective 'concluding thoughts on the Stewart Donald era' thread:
I maintain that he had the club's best interests at heart when taking over, at the same time as being a businessman who saw a once in a lifetime bargain and took the shot. 1/

I don't believe he's a monster. I was fine with the plan to galvanise, rebuild, sell to bigger fish. We were a kick of the ball away from promotion at the first time of asking. You could say he was unlucky. 2/
However... the Will Grigg footage on Netflix spoke volumes about him as a character. Not a demon, as many would paint him out to be, but a heart-over-head gambler. 3/
The wide-eyed SD took a naïve punt on the club, in the same way he did Grigg - an all-or-nothing shot. The plan was always an instant promotion. That Charlton goal signed the death warrant on the plan. Everything since has felt messy and improvised. 4/
You can see why SD held on though. Still a tantalising gamble, a second season with the best squad in a terrible league. But this wasn't supposed to be the plan. That £20m black hole in the accounts was an indefensible, a scar of the gamble that failed. 5/
Jobs for the Eastleigh boys, the asset-stripping by selling the likes of Mumba and other academy lads, the lack of a proper scouting/recruitment strategy... the club was too big to steer for SD. 6/
I haven't even mentioned Methven, but his very thin mask slipped very quickly. The PR guru whose legacy will be a string of PR shockers. Such an unnecessary character in all this. Good riddance. 7/
Anyway, hopefully I'm making sense. The bottom line: SD took a gamble (that I *almost* don't begrudge him taking on a flawed human level - a tantalising opportunity). But he lost and #SAFC fans got hurt. Badly. You can't take that type of gamble with a football club. 8/
Onwards, and desperately, desperately hoping upwards from here. You'll never find a bunch of fans who deserve a slither of success more. We're not asking for the world, we're just sick of the circus. 9/
