just finished the shift from hell. nhs is just such bad vibes all the time. everyone is always angry and rude... i wish people could see how terrible it is. it’s worse than your wildest nightmare
why are you shouting at me because i’ve asked if this 90+ year old man who fell over and is bleeding from his face and on blood thinners can have a CT brain?
i had three pagers today because the other two doctors were isolating. it wasn’t even beeping tbh.. between the three of them it was just one continuous alarm for 13 hours.
spent hours writing death certificates and cremation forms for patients i have never seen
held my patient’s hand in full PPE and she cried and said that’s the first human contact i’ve had in 2 weeks :(
ngl the extremis has made me very competent. i’ve gotten very good at practical skills because there’s no time to fail and no-one to escalate to if i can’t get a catheter in or get an ABG
one thing that i really think is unfair... nurses are allowed to say “i’m not trained in X” or “i’m not confident doing Y”. as the on-call dr you literally always have to attempt any examination or procedure before escalating even if it means a quick google/watching a youtube vid
also why did everyone have an inpatient fall today? is it because it’s christmas?? the excitement??
this patient was thanking me profusely for doing a catheter painlessly because a couple of people had failed and it was painful and while he was holding my hand... his daughter snuck up behind me to be with him for xmas and he literally started sobbing 🥺🥺🥺
patient tearfully confesses she gets beaten up by her son but there’s no time to process it because palliative care nurse arrives to say “hey your patient in bed 21b is taking his last breath 🥺” and then my bleep goes off to say “MEDICAL EMERGENCY, 2 cardiac arrests on X ward”
like this actually happened all at the same time?? i am actually losing it
can’t even be mad at people shouting at u bc i know someone is shouting at them
