The doctors advocating for extended lockdown from today have HSE salaries of over €160K and / or private incomes far in excess of that. I observe that those with “zero covid” mandate are all well-heeled and lockdown in no way impacts their incomes or access to healthcare.
The detrimental collateral damage of lockdown is very well described by global thought leaders in medicine and economics and yet the Irish government persists in implementing measures known to tear society apart with little impact on covid outcomes & massive disease acceleration
First do no harm is a basic principle of the practice of medicine. Managing a patient today over the longer term prognosis of a patient tomorrow is ethically and scientifically wrong.
What bothers me most with my peers and colleagues is the apparent lack of scientific scrutiny of data and information. We known PCR cycles of > 35 are pointless and yield false results yet doctors persist in diagnosing “infection” and “cases” on a false remise.
A vaccine is about to be rolled out with very limited data. The vaccine has not been shown to reduce covid transmission. There are no longer term safety data. The vaccine was not researched in covid patients but healthy volunteers. There are a lot of unknowns as experimental.
Covid is an important condition and deserves a solid risk management plan. Risk reduction is possible with expansive public health measures and education. Health promotion is vital and reduction of modifiable harms such as smoking, malnutrition, obesity.
