Hey y’all, I’ve been discussing holiday grad student expectations w/friends. Without judgment, I would love it fellow STEM grad students participated in these polls. Feel free to comment to clarify or discuss.
In non pandemic times, how much winter holiday break do you get?
(Please answer these polls to the best of your knowledge and experience on non-pandemic years——I understand that COVID-19 may skew how ppl could answer these polls for this year)
Do you discuss your time off expectations with your PI?
If you don’t take time off or take limited (1-2 days etc) off, what shapes that decision?
In general, how much time off do you get in a 12 month span?

(Many of us work weekends but we are excluding weekends off here because we *should* be getting those off anyways)
Feel free to suggest other questions to add to this thread or to discuss or RT. If you aren’t comfortable discussing this publicly, feel free to DM me after participating in the poll. I will keep those conversations between us.
And the reason I focused on STEM grad students here is not because I dislike the humanities or anything——but rather because I don’t know enough about non-STEM PhD experiences to even shape questions
(And this is not a reflection of my own experiences. This is just a discussion. I’m not trying to prove a point, I’m trying to understand the breadth/range of rest/freedom/vacation/etc that my peers are experiencing)
Please RT! I would love it if we hit 100 participants!
