It ignores that McConnell's willingness to put the $2000 standalone bill to a vote isn't guaranteed. And Senate Republicans agree with him.

Did Dems learn nothing when Mitch blocked the HEROES Act earlier this year? It appears so.

McConnell couldn't care less whether people starve or go homeless. He cares about the budget fat which benefits Wall Street, defense contractors, and the border wall.

If Trump signs the budget bill now, McConnell has no reason to amend the $600 payment.

In other words, a House vote on the standalone bill to increase survival benefits to $2000 likely never will come up for a vote in the Senate.

It will join the HEROES Act, which still sits on Mitch's desk.

On the other hand, an imminent government shutdown which affects Wall Street will pressure McConnell to put the $2000 standalone bill to a vote and dissuade him from attaching riders that delay its passage.

That leverage is gone, the minute Trump signs the current bill.

If you're concerned about deadlines, you might ask why Pelosi wasted precious time grandstanding with a "unanimous consent" motion which she knew would fail.

That would have been a better opportunity to vote on the standalone bill.
