Here's a Spade Arc Thread on why Yami's kidnapping RAISES the stakes this arc. I'm not claiming this is a GRAND, UNIQUE writing decision that's genius, but I do personally care about it, so...I'm gonna make a thread. What's new?

You COULD read this thread straight-up, but for more insight into some of the stuff I cover in detail here, please check out a previously made thread about Yami's character. https://twitter.com/ClovaMemes/status/1335662763096551425
Yami is a character that's who's beloved by the fanbase AND by the Black Bulls, but killing off a popular character isn't really what makes this arc nail-biting. There needs to be something important to lose, something that will create a void once gone, and this is Yami Sukehiro.
Yami is PERSONALLY important to EACH Black Bull he's recruited, and thus it carries more emotional weight. His recruitment of them usually stands in direct opposition to the struggle they experienced or the insecurity they had before joining the squad. Example 1: We have Secré
Secre didn't believe she could be of any use. Her magic wasn't particularly powerful, and she didn't have any offensive capabilities; however, Lumiere was able to see value in and use to it and made her feel special. We even see a nod to this in the Courtroom Arc, as Secre makes-
Another example is Vanessa. He unlocks and encourages her to chase her freedom and make her own choices instead of having them made for her. Asta? He instills confidence in him to be a magic-less Wizard King, consistently motivating him to work towards that goal.
What about Finral? Well, Finral isn't valued by his own family for a variety of reasons. His non-offensive spatial magic is considered weak, he's not traditionally aggressive so he's considered a spineless oaf, and he's outdone by his younger brother, who was appointed as the-
next head of the Vaude household. TO his family, Finral WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. Finral runs away because he feels worthless, and his abilities are NOT valued. Why devote yourself to something when it never ends up in a meaningful result? Yami; however, dispels that notion, finding-
a purpose for his skills in moving from place to place. He opposes the notion that Finral is worthless, and has nothing valuable to contribute by first accepting who is and giving him something to do. He also dispels the idea that he individually has to be the strongest.
Obviously, there are some Black Bulls whose backstory we haven't gotten full details for; however, the point is made clear. Black Clover has done a good job at highlighting the PERSONAL and DISTINCT value that Yami has to individual Black Bulls, and why they respect him.
To have that taken away this arc risks ending the relationship dynamic that Yami has with each of them - a pretty tragic event in my opinion. Losing relationships the viewer has been endeared to is probably one of the sources of worry for a lot of people - it was for me.
Yami's presence and impact on the Black Bulls have been very heartwarming, both in and out of the universe, which is why Yami dying matters a lot to me. The source of inspiration for the Black Bulls would be gone.
This has 100% been done a lot before, so I'm not saying it's unique lol. I'm just talking about what matters to me this arc. Regardless of how it turns out writing-wise, I do personally hope Yami is saved despite the impact it would leave to have him gone, but what do you think?
