ATTN aspiring TV writers: As we move into 2021, many of you are thinking of your next steps goalsāone of which is probably to sign with an agent or manager. I tend to get many of the same questions regarding this process, so Iāll write some threads with the advice I usually give:
First, a disclaimer: these are my opinions based on my experiences and insights from this side of the business (management representation). If another professional offers different advice or a different opinion, thatās awesome! I highly recommend getting multiple perspectives.
My qualifications: Iāve spent 4 years working for @CartelHQ (starting as a receptionist, working my way up to Assistant, to coordinator, and now manager). I rep TV writers at the producer, story editor, staff writer, and script coordinator levels.
Iāve been a judge for the Tv writing competitions at @austinfilmfest, @finaldraftinc, @CreativeScreen, and @FvRfilmfest. Iāve also done consulting work for writers through @roadmapwriters and @Stage32Scripts.
Iāve taken classes from @jengrisanti and have a BFA in screenwriting from @CU_DodgeCollege at @ChapmanU (but Iām going to focus on the business side of things and not talk about craft; there are plenty of much more thorough resources out there from professional writers on craft).
Do you have any questions youād like to make sure I get to? Please let me know! (Or tag a writer you know who might find this useful). Thank you and happy writing
