(obv can't comment on the specific details of this case. It just reminds me of the poor dogs presented to me with spinal issues and the massive bias towards these breeds, and dachshunds of course)
And most people can't afford the cost of surgery which can easily exceed insurance cover- this is complex and specialist stuff. Even if they can, recovery is a long process.
I didn't want to spend my time trying to fix the unfixable. You're still left with the severe breathing problems, the skin allergies, itching and infections and eye problems. And owners upset about the cost.
The popularity and unethical breeding of these dogs is such a massive welfare issue, so many of these dogs suffer. It pains me as to how a nation of animal lovers got to this point.
And now dogs with cropped ears- an extremely painful procedure that is illegal in this country- are "trendy". How do we reverse this trend towards the acceptance of suffering in our pets?
