Actually disgusting how uni students have been treated this past year, from expecting to achieve the same quality of work when the quality of teaching is not the same, to getting left out of announcements and blamed for the spread of the virus (1)
I haven’t been into uni since February because of the union strikes and then the lockdown, we were told when we went back into 3rd year we’d have blended learning and in person support for our dissertation. That changed as soon as we got back (2)
I understand none of the teachers want this either and they’re not to blame here but I don’t know how students can’t be told to write multiple assignments over the Christmas period but have no support for these assignments because all of the uni is ‘out of office’ (3)
We get told to relax over the Christmas break and give ourselves time off but how are we meant to do this with absolutely no confirmation of when we can and if we can go back to uni where most of our stuff is and try and focus on the assignments that need to be done (4)
I’ve had no in person learning for coming up to a year now obviously that includes a summer period but I’ve missed the majority of my time at uni, the lectures I have aren’t live and I have two seminars a week which both last an hour, so two hours a week of contact over teams (5)
Students are paying £9000+ for fees and also an extra £9000 for rent and maintenance, I’m lucky that the student finance wales given not only loan but a grant but there’s some students who can’t afford to live and have been given no help by landlords refusing to freeze rent (6)
I’ve payed £600 a month throughout the whole pandemic for a house that I haven’t lived in and yet because the government only advised our letting agents told us we still had to pay, they’re are students who aren’t as fortunate who have had to drop out of uni because of this (7)
The only time the government acted like we existed was when they decided to do the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme which is going to attract the younger generation and allowing thousands of students to go back to uni to the blame the rising covid levels on us??? (8)
This is not an attack on the lecturers because I know they struggle just as much with this type of learning but the false promises by universities and the government, locking first years down in halls and not allowing to see anyone even though it was one of the most mentally (9)
Challenging periods for them being away from home and with a bunch of different people, the 3rd years last year who didn’t get a graduation and were expected to be happy with an online one. To 3rd year students this year having to write a dissertation plus multiple (10)
Assignments in a time where there is no face to face and little support anyway due to the Christmas period ( the staff deserve a break this isn’t about that) it’s shameful what the government has done and they need to acknowledge this (11)
The state of students mental health is at the exact same place as it was in March for most and there’s a lack of funding in general to mental health services at universities and also the NHS in general, they tell us to reach out but what they don’t tell you (12)
Is how overstretched their mental health and well being services are and that you’ll be on a waiting list for months, this is such an important time in anyone’s life and it’s not been taken seriously at all and it’s so unfair the blame that’s been put on us (13)
There’s students I know who are meant to be going on placement in primary school on the 4th, yet they’ve had 0 confirmation if they can even go back, it’s 4 days away... some students will need to catch trains and try and find transport and it’s going to be a massive (14)
Struggle for those students who will miss out on valuable placement that they need in order to pass. With lecturers being on a break over Christmas to the bank holidays they’re running out of time to tell them if they can even go back to their accommodation or not (15)
They were meant to start placement on the 28th of November and didn’t know if they’d be allowed until a few days before the start date, they were also not sure if they could go home for Christmas due to the isolation period and the end date of the placement which caused a (16)
Lot of stress and uncertainty that this may be their first Christmas without being with their family or if they did go home they’d be putting their family at risk which is a horrible decision to have to make (17)
Thankfully they were told days before that they could go home but that doesn’t take away the stress and sadness that they felt leading up to it, we pay so much money and for what? No live lectures, no support and little to no contact time (18)
