1/ There's over 170 construction cranes in Metro #Vancouver. It's only going to get busier as the following pick up steam. A disjointed thread on
1. Oakridge Redevelopment
2. Bdwy Corridor
3. DT @CityofSurrey
4. Quantum Park
5. New St. Paul's Hospital
6. Sen̓áḵw Development
1. Oakridge Redevelopment

4. Quantum Park
5. New St. Paul's Hospital
6. Sen̓áḵw Development
2/ Oakridge redevelopment will kick start the true second city centre in #Vancouver. This development alone will add 6,000 residents, more park space and almost half a million sq ft of office space https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/oakridge-centre-redevelopment-construction
3/ The Broadway Corridor is already the second largest employment region in the Province. Increasingly it's just becoming an extension of DT #Vancouver all the way up to 16th Avenue to the south, Burrard to the West and Clark to the East
4/ Broadway as it currently stands is a disjointed mess. The nodes around Main, Cambie and in Kits are semi inviting but the streetscape needs work to make it more walkable throughout. https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/broadway-plan-great-street-vancouver-redesign
5/ Hope @CityofVancouver's Broadway plan is ambitious, currently it's haphazard at best. I'm not sure where we are with the current iteration but it's safe to say current council is willing to add some employment and residential density. But is it too small?
6/ Here's a link for the Broadway Corridor Plan https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/vancouver-broadway-corridor-plan-consultation-march-2019 I really hope the city doesn't fuck this up.
7/ One of the vital stations along this corridor is the Commercial/Broadway station. The area around it should become an rental/employment/arts and culture hub. This is a start but needs more while preserving the hoods character further north. https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/1780-broadway-commercial-safeway-redevelopment
8/ While the @CityofSurrey sorta missed out on the last decade or so of an economic building boom it's primed to take on the current decades. 28,000 new homes and 4 million sq ft of new office space. Can't wait to see this take shape https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/downtown-surrey-city-centre-new-developments-2020
9/ Quantum Park on the former Molson Plant on Burrard aims to attract more tech companies to #Vancouver. The project could use more office space imo but it's a lot better than what's currently there. The office space should quadruple https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/quantum-park-concord-pacific-molson-coors-brewery-vancouver-redevelopment
10/ St. Paul's Hospital Campus Redevelopment will help move downtown east and it will add thousands of jobs to the area. This will be great during the day for this part of town. Think of the retailers it can support during the day. Cafe's, restaurants... https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/vancouver-chinatown-st-pauls-hospital-false-creek-flats
11/ The hospital campus will also add to the already 4 million+ square feet of office space that will occupy the False Creek Flats and an additional 2 million sq ft office space in Mount Pleasant.
12/ Sen̓áḵw development is revolutionary for many reasons. It will also challenge Vancouverites and their fear of semi-tall buildings outside of the DT peninsula. I can't wait for this to break ground. This along with Quantum Park will change Kits forever https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/squamish-first-nation-senakw-kitsilano-vancouver-redevelopment
13/ These are just some of the many projects that will usher the city into the next stage of its progression. What's stil missing is a landmark tower. The closest we have is @BCPlace, perhaps Vancouver House. But a signature tower in the heart of downtown that pokes...
14/ ...through the domed skyline is still missing. The Bay Parkade Tower could challenge this City and it's stunted views around tall buildings. This could be the first mega tall tower in the region https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/hudsons-bay-parkade-vancouver-holborn-group
15/ Currently the city stands at about 650,000 people. These projects alone will push it past 700,000 people and this doesn't include the other projects sprinkled throughout the Cambie Corridor, Oakridge, Collingwood, River District, Marine Drive, North East False Creek...
16/ In a couple years we have an opportunity to elect a truly economically progress council and mayor and attempt to build a city for all income levels. A diverse city that is a burgeoning tech hub, building on its growing arts scene and become more 24/7 atleast Wed to Sat.
17/ It's time for the old way of thinking to die. We compete globally, not locally to attract jobs, talent etc... I just wish our members at City Hall and to some extent our Provincial government understood that. This isn't 1994 anymore...
