okay let's talk about the oilers goal horn for a little bit, which has been receiving a lot of flack lately now that plenty of people are hearing it many times in a row. (1/5)
the oilers goal horn in rexall place was generated by two truck horns - the two tones it played were E and G. it's not the most pleasurable two tones one could hear, but played together, they're not displeasing. certainly good for a goal horn imo. (2/5)
the goal horn in rogers place is somewhat similar, but more different. the two tones are close, but the E is flatter, and the G is sharper, and there's an effect that's being used on the sound that makes it more abrasive. (3/5)
by taking a major (happy) sound and flattening one of the tones and sharpening the other, you're purposely creating a chaotic element to the sound that is going to irritate people who aren't already accustomed to it. (4/5)
and that's why the goal horn in rogers place sound different than the ones in rexall, and it's why people watching the WJs are irritated by the horn. (end)
