We’ve argued for years that criminal charges should be brought against people who lie about #megaproject #budgets and #schedules.

In 2020, big things finally happened.
In the US, executives who misled investors about the completion date and costs for two #nuclear reactors at the #VCSummer plant in #SouthCarolina were prosecuted and pleaded guilty to felony fraud charges in federal and state court.
In #Canada, the judge responsible for the #MuskratFalls dam inquiry decided to report executives to the police for possible criminal charges related to cost underestimation for the dam.

Legal practice is changing.
I now teach my students not to lie – not just to be morally upstanding, but to not end up in jail. It’s a stronger incentive. They pay more attention.
