2020 was the year I started driving properly again. I've come to the conclusion that there's one thing that annoys drivers more than 'scofflaw' cyclists, and that's other drivers obeying the speed limit. It confirms my belief that it's not law breaking drivers have a problem with
You can break the law on the roads as much as you like, there's just one proviso - you buy into the system. Both literally, in that you must pay for 'road tax', fuel and insurance and figuratively, in that you believe in the use of cars for transport.
So next time someone comes up with that lovely 'joke' that we can all out least agree that we all hate cyclists, just sneer and say 'you know what's worse? Someone doing 28mph in a 30 zone, what's that all about then?'
It's as if someone obeying the rules reminds them of an uncomfortable truth - that they don't. And they can't directly say 'I hate cyclists because they question my belief system' they have to come up with some bollocks abt a tax that doesn't even exist.
You don't hate cyclists, you just hate people who don't think the car is king, and that includes people who obey speed limits.
So have fun in 2021. I'll be the one in front, at 19 in a 20 zone.
