I want to dig a little deeper into the comment by @Sdimaso regarding the “values” of the Murphy Administration. My initial response to it was visceral but lacked detail. So, a thread of details! #ThreadON
I didn’t just have a knee jerk reaction to her clumsy attempt to frame the Governor’s public health decisions politically (and she is far from the only Republican in NJ to have done so this year).
I think we have to address the elephant in the room here: Republicans now so openly display their contempt for many Americans. People who, for one reason or another (and depending upon context) are considered “unworthy” of help.
Worthy vs. unworthy people is somewhat of a moving goalpost in the increasingly incoherent Republican world view, because some people are worthy one moment, yet unworthy in the next.
For example, the criticism of COVID-19 vaccines going to prisons before veteran’s homes. The same party which shouts “back the blue” (except when it’s time to negotiate a contract or pay out a pension) doesn’t appear to care that law enforcement officers work in prisons.
Nationwide, many Corrections Officers have been sickened by COVID-19 in the thousands, with dozens of deaths in their ranks, along with similar casualties among inmate populations.
Dimaso’s inhumane attitude of value judgements between human lives is totally divorced from the fact we only have a scarcity of vaccine doses because of the malfeasance of the national level of her party and it’s leader, President Trump.
Would the @NJGOP do any better than their federal counterparts if elected here in NJ?
I very much doubt it, when their primary message in NJ is “reopen” without regard to the consequences, while calling Murphy a “tyrant” for common sense public health mitigation’s.

We shouldn’t have to make such an artificial & inhumane choice (veteran vs. prisoner), but at the state level there is little choice but to prioritize vaccinations in some way because of the artificial scarcity of doses right now caused by the failure of the federal government.
Republicans in 2020 are taking their underlying elitist philosophy to it’s logical end game, using the only tool they have left to them: Anger.
Keeping people angry, scared and/or locked into a constant cycle of grievance helps today’s Republicans deny the legitimacy of anyone who doesn’t share their morally bankrupt beliefs. It also keeps them in office as the solvers of the very problems their own governance creates.
So in response to a #LeadRight hashtag, I’ll respond with my own: #LeadBetter.
How can the @NJGOP can #LeadBetter? By adding humanity and integrity back into their values.
