I decided that, for 2020, I would go on a submission break to focus on finishing my collection. HOWEVER, my flash babies had other plans and, little did I know at the time, several of them would find homes with dream publications.
Here’s my 2020 publications thread!
Here’s my 2020 publications thread!
First up is HELLO, MY NAME IS MARLEY, published by the wonderful editors @CraftLiterary! CRAFT has always been a publication I’ve admired so when an acceptance came my way for my hermit crab piece with multiple, difficult formatting parts I was thrilled! https://www.craftliterary.com/2020/02/07/hello-my-name-is-marley-k-b-carle/#
IN THE LANTERN ROOM @7x7_la, a collaboration with the incredibly talented @kileylee_ who I was so thrilled to work with and I was so excited that 7x& put us together. If you haven’t seen Kiley’s incredible scribble art it’s an absolute MUST!

My essay in @byshondaland which came as a surprise since I didn’t expect to write any nonfiction and I especially didn’t think it would be published anywhere! This piece started as notes on my phone and quickly grew into something I needed to finish. https://www.shondaland.com/live/a32158520/what-its-like-working-at-a-grocery-store-during-covid-19/?fbclid=IwAR32YAhvrz6Hr6ze6rplcuIKmsymAgWLpIeDOQTH6QDzwv0_-P3zG0FM_HY
I squealed when the acceptance for NOTES FOR MY LATEST BOOKKEEPER from @Little_Fiction found its way into my inbox! A dream pub of mine wanted my crazy listicle about a character (not me) who is obsessed with the maintenance of her (not me) books

It’s no secret that I’ve been a long time admirer of @HOOTreview and their micros published as postcards. One of my favorite micros found a home thanks to the amazing editor/artist/writer/human who made my writer dream pub a reality

Nothing like a woman who is obsessed with her gerbil, Gertrude Stein. This story was so much fun to create and is one of my favorite pieces to read. I will always be grateful to the editors of @minerallitmag for giving it a home

I somehow managed to publish TWO stories @theoffingmag this year! I still can’t believe A LETTER TO MY BREASTS and IN EXCHANGE FOR THE FINAL PUDDING CUP are in this absolutely incredible publication! https://theoffingmag.com/fiction/in-exchange-for-the-final-pudding-cup-we-offer-our-inner-thoughts/
I will always love @JellyfishReview and will forever get all the squeals when they release a new issue or accept one of my stories. THIS IS A STORY ABOUT A FOX is different from any of my other pieces. https://jellyfishreview.wordpress.com/2020/10/16/this-is-a-story-about-a-fox-by-k-b-carle/
@APIARYmag was one of the first literary magazines I was introduced to when I began my writing journey. To think that one of my stories, MY BROTHER SCARECROW, would find a home with them still gives me all the heart flutters

And my final publication of 2020 is OF COURSE a hermit crab flash! ABERNATHY_RESUME.DOCX was so much fun to write in honor of all the teachers I’ve had past, present, and future! Thank you @PorcupineLit for posting Sybil Abernathy’s resume to your site

Thank you to all of the editors who provided a space for my work. Who reached out and asked me to send them stories. Who have cheered and continued to share my work or have messaged me privately to share what they love most about my words or to just say hi.
Thank you to all of the fabulous workshop leaders who provided the multiple writing retreats I’ve needed to get through this year!

Special shout-out to @anovelideaphl, @kathyfish, @kimmagowan, and @TommyDeanWriter for allowing me to test my abilities as a teacher. Whether leading my own workshop or guest teaching, I can’t wait to see what the future holds in the era of the flash fiction/cnf takeover!
Thank you to all my friends for offering editorial advice, for liking/reading/sharing my words, and for providing a space where I could retreat to for a quick laugh before continuing to procrastinate on my much needed edits.
