lrt ,, fanfic/fanart is produced for FREE. unless you COMMISION someone or they ASK for feedback, you have no right to criticize content someone makes FOR FREE.
if you really dislike it, then chances are you Aren't the target audience! unless it's actually "problematic" as in disrespecting cc boundaries or perpetuating discrimination of some kind,, then it's completely harmless.
someone using - instead of " for dialogue isnt going to kill you. a plotline that you think is boring or overdone is probably really enjoyable to another person. fic writers are Not published authors. theyre not making a cent from the fics they write, usually.
nobody's forcing you to read a fic that you dont like. fic writers write bc it's something fun to them! bc they enjoy it! it's not for YOU. having readers enjoy your work is like, the best feeling in the world, but that doesnt mean that you are entitled to ANYTHING we write
fanfic authors in particular, in this fandom, not only have to deal with most of the fandom not giving them any kind of recognition, but have to deal with people mocking them at every turn. fic authors are constantly disrespected.
people beg ccs to "read fanfics on stream" , completely ignoring the wishes of the fic authors. it used to be that if you wrote fics, then you had to keep it hidden out of fear of being witchhunted or something. though a great majority of fics dont have nsfw content or shipping
at all, fic authors are generalized as disgusting shippers that dont care about cc boundaries, ignored at best or the butt of a community joke/harassed/disrespected/publicly mocked at worst.
nobody is "entitled" to good fanart or good fanfics. if you want a good fanfic? do it like the rest of us and spend hours scrolling through ao3 !! promote good fics so that the authors get more attention !! write the damn fic yourself !!
but dont go around "criticizing" whatever fic you find yourself displeased with. some authors are ok with criticism, but honestly a vast majority of them will probably agree when i say that we're not really,, looking for that when we publish fanfic
artists, writers, musicians ,, when we make content for these communities, we're doing it bc we like it. we're doing it bc it's fun. most of us arent doing it to become professional ,, and if we are, we'll ask for criticism on our own.
a lot of people here are hobbyists. writing, music, art, it's all just stuff we're doing for our own enjoyment. dont take someone else's comfort hobby and turn it into something stressful or upsetting.
in general ,, respect content creators. ALL content creators. that includes artists with less than a hundred followers, writers that hardly get any comments on their work, musicians that are often overlooked or ignored. amplify their content. support them.
if you have money to spare, commission your fav artists! leave comments on their work, tell them how much you liked it, tell other people "hey! look at this REALLY COOL content!" and if you didn't like it? walk away. it wasnt for you.
the artists, writers, and other content creators in this fandom work so, so hard. the least you can do is give them basic respect.
