What's a "true" fan?
For me it's someone who loves a work of art or franchise from the heart. It can be:
- The dude who just got into SW with the Mandalorian
- The kid who's only seen Resistance.
- The teen who got into SW with the ST
- The old lady who likes only the OT.

Technically there are no "true" fans, only fans, but if we're talking about true, it's about liking something.
I'm pretty sure many true fans loved to see Luke in The Mandalorian.
I'm pretty sure many true fans loved Luke in the end of The Last Jedi.

Anyway, I disagree only people who watched the OT are true fans. It doesn't mean you're a better fan; it means you're old. And I'm old.
True and eternal fans love a movie when they are kids. Star Wars got many true fans with the wonderful The Clone Wars.

But if Lucasfilm doesn't look at the future of the franchise, it won't have fans 10, 20 years from now.
Each trilogy brings in a new generation. An entire generation who got into Star Wars because of the ST was given the middle finger.
I doubt they'll remember it fondly.
