I got tsk-ed on my “uplift Blk Women” Twitter title and since I’m moisturized and rested, I’ve got time today.
Putting a spotlight on those specific members of the broader URM is intentional on my part.
Black women (which *includes* trans women so I won’t keep saying this)1/

Are trailing every other demographic group in terms of socioeconomic success. We are the worst hit by the pandemic and have the highest rate of job & housing loss as a result of the pandemic.
In business & tech we have fewer connections thus we rarely get hired by referrals 2/

Once we get hired, we’re less likely to climb the ranks. 49% of women feel their race/identity is a limiting factor, the highest of all demographics (for comparison only 3% of WW felt the same). Blk Women make up ~7% of the population but only 1.6% of leadership roles 3/
Blk Women’s accomplishments are more likely to be downplayed or attributed to luck. Only 24% of Blk Women reported they had access to sponsorships/leaders to help them achieve the next step. We are 2.5x more likely to face micro aggressions than WW. But anyway back to my rant 4/
If you think uplifting Blk Women comes at the expense of non-Blk Women, then you view the world as a zero-sum game & thats a big problem because it means you also believe that those same people must be suppressed in order for you to win. If so, fuck you and your crew. 5/
Lastly, here’s a more realistic visual of what uplifting Blk Women/Nonmen mean. Imagine you’re at a dance competition. Everyone is talented but a few don’t have the right equipment (shoes, colorful costumes, etc). Uplifting those who didn’t have the right equipment means 6/
Getting them decent shoes. It ain’t got nothing to do with those who already got the best shoes and shit.
Ok, sweetheart? Nite.
